Small dog owners all over the world love and cherish their pets, but has your small dog become the terror of the seven seas? They may be small, but they can certainly cause a big headache if they develop small dog syndrome.

Spotting a dog that has small dog syndrome isn’t difficult. All you have to do is look for the overly aggressive, extremely yappy, and overly protective pooch.

Because of their size, a small dog can cause trouble and get away with it much more easily than a large dog can. For one they aren’t nearly as loud when they bark, so they can get away with barking for longer, or they can be allowed to continue to bark because it can be ignored.

Besides the size, their cuteness also helps them get away with poor canine behavior. Because they are cute, small, affectionate and easy to pick up and hold, they often will be picked up when they do something wrong. These small canines often are babied because their owners see them as babies.

Their cuteness and cuddliness makes it understandable why many owners let them act out of control. It’s easy to let them continue to bark like crazy when someone enters your house.

When you have your dog on your lap you may find that it is extremely protective of you and will not let anyone else come close to you. This is them owning you. Since you are supposed to be the owner, it is not acceptable behavior.

Why do some dogs develop small dog syndrome? Is it purely just from them being small? It isn’t because they are small, the real reason they act that way is because their owners let them act like a terror.

Fear not, this behavior isn’t permanent. Something can be done. With consistent discipline and training, you can turn your small dog into a well behaved and happier pet.
