Purebreds, Mutts and Designer Dogs

There have always been mixed breed dogs that differ in looks, character and size even when they come from the same set of offspring. Usually these dogs are referred to as “mutts” and they are much adored. They usually have excellent health and they make wonderful pets.

A mixed breed dog is not a purebred and it may not be known if the parents of the dog are purebreds. They are in essence dogs from an unknown lineage and a uncertain genetic line. They are habitually smart and wonderful and they make great pets but their roots is unidentified.

On the other hand a purebred has two parents of the same breed. Many times there are extensive and well kept records on the topic of the heritage of these dogs. Breeders are vigilant in their breeding actions to make sure that they turn out the strongest individuality in their dogs.

Some folks may favor to have a mixed breed or a mutt for a pet as they usually possess great health and they make great pets while others may prefer to have a purebred dog. Yet, there is one more alternative that can be considered and that is the hybrid dog or the “designer dogs”.

Hybrids are a cross of two purebred dogs from two different breeds. They are distinct from a mutt because their ancestry is well-known. Each of their parents are purebreds with genetic lines that can commonly be traced back many generations.

Designer dogs are becoming extremely popular currently and fittingly so. They tend to have the best characteristics of two individual breeds and oftentimes they are the greatest of both breeds. They can take on the character of either breed or at times both breeds.

These hybrid dogs often have really fun names such as a cockapoo for a cocker and poodle combination, a puggle, which is a pug and beagle mix, a goldendoodle, which is a golden retriever and poodle combination and of course, many other fun mixtures of the two purebred names.

Hybrids are fantastic pets and if you are having a hard time deciding on a breed a hybrid can get you the best of two breeds. They usually have excellent health and they are clever and fun dogs to own.
